Do not book airport transit in Punta Cana with Nexus. We booked and paid ahead for a group of 7 for a private transfer to and from the airport to our resort last week. Our flight home was canceled last Monday due to a blizzard in New York, we were notified 24 hours ahead of time on Sunday. We messaged them on their WhatsApp as soon as it was canceled to notify them and they said "no problem, just let us know when you have your new flight and we'll reschedule the airport transfer." We were not able to rebook our flight home until after our original flight had been planned for (the morning after), as nothing was even available to rebook until then. We messaged them the minute we rebooked our flight and they responded saying we can no longer reschedule as the original flight time had already come and gone and we marked you as a "no show". Even though we gave them 24 hours notice and they said "no problem, let us know the reschedule". We asked for proof that they came to the resort and they could not provide this. Also, they have our contact information, why would the driver or someone from Nexus not had tried to contact us on Monday if they arrived at our resort for pickup? We messaged them early on Tuesday morning with our new flight info, literally as soon as we had it, just like they had asked. They would not refund us our money and offered a very small discount to rebook with them on a new transfer. We rebooked with another company and had a great experience. I will mention we had an ok experience when we were picked up at the airport, although it took them a really long time to locate our van, but it's busy, we get it. Will never use this company again for airport transfers. Perhaps they are great with excursions and othe tours (although I am seeing some of the reviews say otherwise), but this whole experience felt like a scam. We travel a lot and never experienced something like this. We were also with our 2 small children and this just added so much extra and unnecessary stress on top of having to stay extra days in the DR because of the storm and cancellarions and trying to find our way home. I never go out of my way to post negative reviews, but this experience just really stuck with me and I needed to put this out there. I hope it helps someone else make an informed decision.
The Nexus contact Romy at our resort was non existent and very unhelpful. We never even met her as she seemed to never be there. Gave us the run around for pick up time from the resort to the airport. Found out on our own from another group leaving the same time. Don't book with Sunwing who uses Nexus or pay the extra for private transfer if you are looking for peace of mind transfers.
Took the Nexus Tours Saona Sail adventure package and came back with mixed feelings. To start, the pick up was perfect, the transfers were smooth, the guide Alexandro was good though he could speak English a little slower. The Catamaran trip to the island, a nearly 90 minutes affair was wonderful with plenty of rum and music. The highlight was a stop over in the sea about 500 meters from the beach where the shallow water allowed a great swimming experience. Finally came to the Salona island itself. Here came the let down. The Nexus Tours guests are shunted away from the main beach to a side one ten minutes walk away. This particular beach has a rocky beach and very strong under currents. The very reason for the tour was a disaster. The food too was indifferent. It’s a beautiful island, the main beach is very inviting so if you go, go with a group which will take you to the main beach.
Went to Catalina Island from Ocean El faro. Worst excursion ever. 2 hour ride each way to a prestige sandy beach. Not even close to a nice beach. Rocky and full of sea weed. Catamaran ride was 45 minutes. We were picked up at resort almost an hour late. Almost $100 per person for 3 hours at beach and almost 9 hours of travel.
I do Not recommend the Saona Tour because the catamaran is too slow(a plus: it had a clean Toilet❤️). Maybe choose an option with a speedboat. We were gone for 12 hours(hotel-tour-hotel) just to stay for 1.5 h on the Saona Island and maybe 30 minutes in a „natural swimming pool“ which is ok, but there were many people there and the water is not better than what you may have at your hotel. Basically it was all about the trip to get there rather than the destination itself. All Drinks are from big bottles of water/juice( some local look alikes similar to Cola or Sprite) If you go, I would recommend to Take your own bottles of water to have them refilled. The lunch was ok But Not great. You have to pay extra if you want Fish or seafood. The Tour Guide Jose Manuel was nice as well as the staff on Board. If you have any walking disabilities this is definitely not for you as you have to switch many boats from one to another. We also had The transfer from airport and return. Everything went well except for the confusion when you arrive at the airport, as it is Very crowded, you have to check in at Nexus where they tell you the bus number, and then you have to go look for the bus by yourself in a big parking lot full of Buses and people. However we arrived well and the return was also ok. Everything on time and as planned
